Listen to Music from Plex on Alexa devices

Published in Tutorials on Dec 31, 2018

Plex is a powerful piece of software which allows you to organise your media library and stream your media from all of your devices. That alone is why it's so popular.

If you have Alexa-enabled devices, you'll for sure want to listen to Music from your Plex library. In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how you do exactly that. Setup Plex on your Alexa device.

Firstly, you'll need the Alexa app installed on your phone or tablet.

When you're in the Alexa app, browse to the 'Skills & Games' section of the app. Tap on the search icon and search for 'Plex'. Then enable the skill.

You'll be prompted to enter your Plex login information, so that you can link up your Alexa device with your Plex media server.

After you've logged in and everything is setup, you should be able to say 'Alexa, ask Plex to play music by [artist name]'. And it'll start playing a mix of music by the artist you chose.

On the Plex Documentation, there is a list of all the voice commands you can use.

If you'd like to buy an Alexa, here's a link to one on Amazon.
